THE SPOTS

Yeh Yeh's Sandwiches
Yeh-Yeh’s in Lynnwood is where to go for the greatest banh mi in the Seattle area. Their flash-fried tofu sandwich is a complete slam dunk - the tofu is an ideal thickness, and the shredded lettuce is a great addition, especially covered in mayo, cracked black pepper, soy sauce, and a sweet, creamy dressing.

Order some turmeric net bread with lentil curry, salty tofu fried rice with a runny egg, and incredible pan mee noodles with mushrooms and crispy shallots from this iconic Malaysian spot. And, don’t forget a coconut milkshake for dessert, which you can put in your freezer for safekeeping while you eat everything else.

Mammoth is a beer bar that serves delicious sandwiches, and they have a nice variety of vegetarian ones, too - like a fried eggplant sub with arugula and goat cheese, or a tofu banh mi with spicy mayo. It’s perfect for when hummus on Dave’s Killer Bread is getting old and you’re in need of a huge, loaded hero. For more information, check out their Instagram.

This vegan tasting menu spot is doing a few things right now - the first is selling a bunch of items like flourless peanut butter chocolate cookies and cashew-milk mozzarella, which all come in handy if you’re putting together a plant-based snack spread for a virtual trivia night. They’re also selling meals for two involving a soup, salad, and main course (expect something like black forbidden rice risotto with mushroom gravy, smoked maple-roasted carrots, and sunchoke chips). Check their website for the full menu.

One of the best things we’ve eaten lately is the vegan Philly cheesesteak from King Philly on Beacon Hill. They use Beyond Meat crumbles and non-dairy cheese to create theirs, and it’s fantastic. The griddle creates a bunch of tasty crispy bits, and the American slices they use are creamy, melty, and mild. What makes this an especially excellent sandwich, though, is when you get everything in the same bite, including some grilled onions and the chewy Amoroso roll.

For a casual weeknight dinner, Mamnoon Street is one of the best spots in town. Their falafel wrap on homemade pita with pickled turnips is excellent, but there are a ton of other meatless options on their menu, from mezzes like hummus or baba ganoush to spicy harra fries with za’atar mayo. You’ll want extra sides of that mayo to keep in your fridge.

Plum Bistro is one of our favorite vegan spots in the city - it’s a place that shows us that great mac and cheese doesn’t need cheese at all. Right now, they’ve implemented a nightly theme for their family-style meals, which ranges from taco night to a chick’n and waffles brunch on the weekend. You can order and find more information on their website.

Some of the best pastas at Bizzarro don’t have any meat at all - like the pappardelle in a creamy sherry-spiked mushroom sauce, gnocchi with a cheesy, roasted cauliflower sauce, and ziti with tomato, melted mozzarella, and basil. Order these with a meatless starter like eggplant parmesan or fried risotto balls for a great meal.

Mount & Bao is an excellent restaurant for dumplings of all kinds. This includes a bunch of vegetarian options, like bao filled with carrot, mushroom dumplings, and spinach dumplings. They also have dishes like tofu rice bowls, cucumber salad, amazing dry-fried green beans, and noodles with spicy sauce. Call ahead at 206-687-7997 to place a pickup order, or you can get it delivered through a third-party app.

Excellent plant-based banh mi aside, sandwich options can be limited if you’re looking to have a meatless moment. At L’Oursin’s new takeout pop-up called Old Scratch, they are serving a smoked tofu sandwich covered in BBQ sauce and slaw on a potato roll. The smoke doesn’t overpower anything, the bun is fluffy, and the tofu itself is just as beefy as a slab of ribs. Take a break from that can of chickpeas and grab this for lunch instead.

For tasty plant-based reubens, poutine, and chicken and waffles, Wayward Vegan Cafe is your place. It’s kind of like a vegan version of The Cheesecake Factory - the menu at this diner is truly encyclopedic, with everything from stroganoff to Taco Bell-inspired crunchwraps. They’re open for takeout and delivery, and they’re also selling bottles of spirits and beer.

This is a time to be creative - like using full compost buckets as kettlebells, or recreating your favorite vacation spots in Minecraft. Cook Weaver’s new takeout menu is just as innovative with how they serve vegetables. From green pea spaetzle with beurre blanc and fermented black beans to a cauliflower smashburger, there are a lot of exciting things happening here involving plants. Call the restaurant at 206-324-0599 to place an order.
When it comes to plant-based potstickers, sometimes you aren’t in the mood for spinach, mushrooms, or a combination of spinach and mushrooms. Allow us to point you in the direction of this Chinese spot in Wallingford. They serve a variety of wontons, but the best ones are stuffed with a mixture of napa cabbage, tofu, and carrots. The result is this incredibly savory, sweet, and salty filling that pairs perfectly with a side of vinegar for dipping. Add on a scallion pancake and you have yourself an excellent meal. And for even more dumplings, check out our guide to the very best in town.
Consider Cafe Flora your one-stop shop for all kinds of vegetarian food. For breakfast, they have a popup bakehouse selling packs of take-and-bake scones, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and other pastries (as well as juices and coffee). Lunch and dinner are lumped into one menu full of Cafe Flora favorites like portobello French dip sandwiches, cheesy mashed potato tacos, and black bean burgers. Go to their website for the full menu and information on how to order.

For a bunch of tasty things that involve multiple vegetables, you can order online for pickup and delivery from Bounty Kitchen. From grain bowls and a variety of salads (like a spicy Thai peanut or kale caesar) to sandwiches and juices, it’s a perfect choice if your breakfasts for the past week have consisted of licking the frosting off cupcakes.

Kati is one of our first choices for a lunch meeting, but it’ll also work for your virtual lunch meetings, too. You’ll find things like tofu and pumpkin curries, but there’s also a great lineup of appetizers, like vegetable potstickers and fried garlic jackfruit on crispy rice. You can order for pickup and delivery from 12-8:30pm on Tuesday-Sunday.

Cycle Dogs usually is the resident food truck at Peddler Brewing Company, but they’ve moved to the parking lot of Electric And Folding Bikes Northwest temporarily. It’s a great option for quick vegan fast food like loaded Field Roast hot dogs, plant-based big macs, chicken(less) sandwiches, and tofu scramble breakfast burritos. You can pick your food up, or order using any of the delivery apps.
HB Beverage Co
If you’re really in the mood for a big bowl of fruit and you live on the Eastside, get something from Healthy Bonez Beverage Company. Their smoothie bowls range from acai with hemp hearts, berries, and honey to a frozen banana bowl with peanut butter and pretzels - so it covers breakfast and dessert (or both in the same meal).

This vegan burger joint is inside the Roosevelt Whole Foods. So after you do some shopping, you can also grab a veggie burger, meatless chicken sandwich, crinkle fries, and one of their delicious cookies and cream milkshakes made with coconut soft serve for the drive home.

Chu Minh Tofu And Vegetarian Deli
Chu Minh’s BBQ “pork” banh mi is a very delicious and convincing stand-in for the real thing, and it happens to be all vegan. Not only that, but they have nine different plant-based meat substitutes to fill your sandwich with, from “spicy lemongrass chicken” to “sesame beef.”

Tamarind Tree is an excellent Vietnamese spot that makes especially good dishes with tofu. Theirs is rubbed with lemongrass and grilled with perfect char marks, and you can get it as a bun cha plate with noodles or a rice bowl. When you pick up your order, the restaurant will even give you a free scoop of ice cream.
This vegan cafe and bakery in the University District is open for pickup and takeout. You can call them at 206-522-6966 to order, or use this link. If you can’t decide what to order, the artichoke melt and chocolate peanut butter smoothie is a great option.
If you live in West Seattle, Itto’s will deliver you a tapas bar spread straight to your door. Most of the dishes on the menu are vegetarian, so you can build a mix and match meal of small plates like manchego croquettes, tortilla española, lima bean fritters, and eggplant-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. Add some wine from their bottle shop, throw on a fun Spotify playlist, and you’ve got yourself a romantic date night (even if you’re still wearing the leggings you worked out in).
