Where we've featured it
The Bay Area loves a fried chicken sandwich (can you tell by this list?), and one we can get behind is from Hetchy’s Hots, a takeout-only spot in SoMa from The Square Pie Guys. Our go-to is made with a massive chicken thigh that’s doused in house-made chili oil and dusted with spice mix, and then topped with calabrian spices and a lemon aioli. But you won’t be disappointed with whatever you choose, whether it’s the one with ranch powder and pickled onions, or the one stuffed with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. But FYI, their sandwiches are actually pretty mild if you like some heat. Consider ordering some more chili oil on the side.
Like World Famous Hot Boys and Cali Alley, we’ve talked a lot about Hetchy’s Hots in recent days, and with good reason. The Square Pie Guys spin-off in SoMa makes great Nashville-inspired hot sandwiches that come with delicious sauces, massive cuts of chicken, and toppings that range from Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to taco spice to Calabrian chilies.
The Square Pie Guys have started making Nashville-style fried chicken sandwiches out of their SoMa pizza place. So if you’re craving crispy, juicy fried things (for us, that craving is all the time), order the Calabria sandwich ($14) from Hetchy’s Hots. It’s topped with pickles, peppers, and a lemon aioli we’d happily drink out of a glass. Order online for pick-up or delivery.
If eating a hot chicken sandwich topped with pickled jalapeños and a near-obscene amount of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos wasn’t already on your to-do list, it should be. This new virtual restaurant from the Square Pie Guys is offering five sandwiches, each flavored with different spices (like Szechuan, Calabrian, and, yes, Flamin’ Hot Cheeto dust). You can order the sandwiches for pick-up or delivery in SF.
The team behind Square Pie Guys is now launching an online hot chicken sandwich kitchen - you can order online for delivery.
