7 New Things To Do & Eat In San Francisco This Week

Get into some oysters, pepperoni pizza, shawarma, and more.

We’re doing a lot this week - like rating endless Met Gala looks from our couches and coming to terms with the fact that it’s almost fall. On top of all that, there are tons of fun things to do and eat right now, including pop-ups, the return of a great spot for oysters, and a city-wide pepperoni pizza collab. Here are seven you should check out.

Pepperoni Pizza Day

National Pepperoni Pizza Day is September 20th. And to celebrate, Detroit-style pizza spot Square Pie Guys rounded up a ton of pizza places across the city to form a group they’ve dubbed the “Pepperoni Posse” (it includes Damnfine, Fiorella, and Sunset Squares, to name a few). On Monday, all of the spots will donate a portion of the proceeds from pepperoni pizza sales to various organizations fighting food insecurity, like Food Shift or Vouchers 4 Veggies.

Leo’s Oyster Bar

Leo’s Oyster Bar went dark following the March 2020 shutdown - but 18 months later, they’re back. The Financial District seafood spot is open weekdays only, from 4-8pm. So if you’re looking for an excuse to get into some oysters, caviar, and cocktails, consider this a sign.

Unco Frank's

One of our favorite new pop-ups returns September 16th after a month-long hiatus. You’ll find the Hawaiian pop-up serving things like fish sandwiches and furikake fries topped with kalua pork at High Treason in the Richmond, Thursday to Monday.

Che Fico Pizza Pop-Up

Che Fico, the Italian restaurant in NoPa, has been in hibernation since the beginning of the pandemic (their sister spot downstairs, Che Fico Alimentari, is open for takeout and dine-in). They’re reopening soon (the official date is TBA), and in preparation will be hosting a series of pop-up dinners on September 17th and 18th with a special menu that previews their new pizzas. It’s $75 per person for a three-course meal and a glass of sparkling wine - book here.

Reems x Shawarmaji

Throughout September, Shawarmaji is collaborating with Reem’s on a special, limited-time-only menu item. Stop by the shawarma spot in Uptown Oakland every Thursday and Friday for the next few weeks to get your hands on the Pali Cali Remix: sumac braised chicken with caramelized onion and chili jam, pickles, and a buttermilk labneh ranch dipping sauce.

Bar Part Time

There are plenty of new wine bars in SF right now. But if you’re looking for a wine bar where you can also dance, try Bar Part Time. The natural wine spot hosts rotating DJs, so you can get down on the dance floor while sipping on a glass of something funky.

Oakland Little Saigon Mid-Autumn Festival

For this year’s Mid-Autumn festival, Good Good Eatz and the Oakland Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce are hosting a celebration in Clinton Park. The event goes down from 12-5pm on Saturday, September 18th, and will include live music, performances, mooncakes, and food from local Oakland’s Little Saigon businesses.
