Hi Infatuation reader. With restaurants around the country reopening, we understand that socializing in any form might still feel strange, and poses risks too. Should you go out to eat? That’s up to you. But we’ll continue to keep you informed as best we can. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email us at community@theinfatuation.com.

Where to get a frozen, swirly dessert in Philly.

Soft serve is a summer food. And since there’s only a little over a month left until the leaves start changing, we put this list together of our five favorite places to get custard, frozen yogurt, and soft serve around the city. Because we would really hate for you to miss out on a cold dessert during the only two hot months in Philly.

The spots

Franklin Ice Cream Bar

$$$$ 112 Market St

After a brief (but very upsetting) hiatus, Franklin Ice Cream Bar is once again offering their light yet creamy soft serve. You can get it in their signature takeout box or a chocolate-dipped cone, with sprinkles or old school hot fudge. But any way you get it is equally special, like all of the players on your third-grade soccer team, allegedly. Order online for delivery, or just walk up to the counter and place your order.

Custard & Cakes Creamery

$$$$ 5461 Ridge Ave

Every Wednesday through Sunday, C&C Creamery in Manayunk is doing a limited menu that thankfully still includes their excellent vanilla and chocolate soft serve. While you can currently only get it in a cup and have to call ahead to order, speaking on the phone with someone for 30 seconds is more than worth a huge cup full of swirly happiness covered in rainbow sprinkles.

Frankford Hall

$$$$
BurgersGerman  in  Fishtown
$$$$ 1210 Frankford Ave

Frankford Hall doesn’t have soft serve on their takeout menu, which means that you have to actually sit down at this Fishtown bar to order it. But considering the new law that you have to eat a meal with any sit-down drink in Philly, it’s the perfect excuse to get a beer with a “meal” of chocolate and vanilla swirl soft serve. Your mom might not have considered that a balanced dinner when you were seven, but if the government says it’s legit who are we to argue?

the igloo

$$$$ 1514 Frankford Ave

The Igloo has two Philly locations - one in Fishtown and the other in Grad Hospital - and they’re both open and doing takeout and delivery. It’s normally one of those self-serve frozen yogurt spots where you make your own bowl, but with new regulations, their staff is now in charge of filling those huge cups with an absurd amount of toppings. Flavors change every week and their online menu isn’t always updated, so check the boards hanging in their windows before ordering to make sure you have all the options.

Shake Shack

$$$$
$$$$ 3200 Chestnut St

Shake Shack isn’t some local Philly institution, but still, their custard is some of the best in the city. They’ve got vanilla and chocolate swirls that you can eat as is or in the form of a “concrete” - which is essentially like a grown-up Dairy Queen Blizzard. With three locations in Philly, you should be able to find one that’s open and taking orders for pickup or delivery. And you always have the option to get a burger or some fries to dip into the soft serve if you’re in the mood, too.
