Every day, you show up to work and either accomplish a sufficient amount or look productive enough not to get fired. And when you’ve either crossed enough tasks off your to-do list or read every opinion piece on the Sixers’ season, you deserve to leave the office and get a drink that doesn’t cost $20. So here’s a guide to the best Happy Hours in Philadelphia. It’s divided into neighborhoods, with all the details you’ll need on days, times, and drink deals.

center city

Oyster House

$$$$ 1516 Sansom St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Saturday, 9-11pm

The Deal: $5 Seasonal Punch, $3 Drafts, $3 Oyster Shooters

You’ll probably see half the city at Oyster House after work on any given day since this place has both great Happy Hour deals ($1 oysters) and an excellent menu in case you decide to stay for dinner after a few glasses of punch.

$$$$ 124 S 13th St

When: Daily, 4-7pm

The Deal: $5 House Wine, Featured Beer, And Cocktails, $7 Off Scorpion Bowls

Sampan is an Asian restaurant in Midtown Village, and while the large, loungey, and very purple space may feel a little outdated, the food here is still good. We’re especially into the small plates, like the chicken bao bun and rabbit egg roll, which are all $5 or less during Happy Hour. And if you’re not into sitting inside, you can get the whole Happy Hour menu out back at the Graffiti Bar, which is a lot less purple.

Kerry McIntyre

Barclay Prime

$$$$ 237 S 18th St

When: Monday-Friday, 4:30-6:30pm

The Deal: $6 Beer And Wine, $7 Cocktails

When you want to impress someone but have a limited budget to do so, take them for a few drinks at Barclay Prime. It’s the nicest (and fanciest) steakhouse in the city, and all of their cocktails are only $7 during Happy Hour. Plus, they discount some raw bar items, which means you can get a hamachi crudo for $9 instead of the normal $18, and a half-dozen oysters for $14 instead of $21.

Ryan Scott

Bud & Marilyn's

$$$$ 1234 Locust St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Beer, $7 House Wine, Cocktails, And Slushies

Bud & Marilyn’s is a retro spot in Midtown Village that looks like it’s straight out of the 1960s, with all the wood-paneling and black-and-white dial TVs that you can imagine. And during Happy Hour, all of the buttery comfort food - like crispy cheese curds and fried chicken sandwiches - is just $4-6 per dish.

Max Grudzinski

$$$$ 237 Saint James Pl

When: Monday-Friday, 5-6pm

The Deal: $4 Off Specialty Cocktails, $3 Off Wines By The Glass, $3 Beers

If you don’t have a reservation at Zahav, you can wait in line out front before they open and try to get a seat at the bar during Happy Hour. If you succeed (you’ll probably have to arrive before 4pm), get their hummus which is just $6 on top of all the drinks specials.

Bar Ly Chinatown

$$$$ 101 N 11th St

When: Daily, 3:30-6:30pm

The Deal: $3.50 Drafts And Domestic Beers, $4.50 Craft Beers, $4.50 Cocktails

Bar-Ly has the best Happy Hour in Chinatown, with great drink specials and discounts on over 20 of their small plates. It’s also the only sports bar in the area, which means you can pregame a Sixers’ game with a few drinks and have your tab probably be under $20.

$$$$ 2121 Walnut St

When: Tuesday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $2 Off Drafts, $7 Wines On Tap, $7 Daily Cocktail

Recently, Townsend moved to Rittenhouse. And although the space isn’t quite as romantic as it was when it occupied a little East Passyunk townhouse, it’s still a great place to bring a date for some excellent discounted cocktails.

Neal Santos

Alma De Cuba

$$$$ 1623 Walnut St

When: Monday-Friday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $6 Cocktails, $18 Pitchers

Alma De Cuba looks kind of like a modern Miami lounge, and while it’s an expensive place to have a full dinner, the Happy Hour deals make it a reasonable place to grab some post-work drinks and snacks. Split an $18 mojito pitcher, and order the $6 smoked wahoo fish tacos or a couple of their $2 ceviche options.

Pub & Kitchen

$$$$ 1946 Lombard St

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm

The Deal: $4 Pilsners, $6 House Wine, $7 Moscow Mules, $8 Draft Old Fashioneds

Pub & Kitchen is a people pleaser - you could take your boss here, your friend from crossfit, or someone you barely know but are forced to get drinks with. And considering some of their best dishes are discounted, like the excellent burger topped with melted cheddar and a whiskey sauce, you probably won’t even have to talk that much.

Drew Holtz

$$$$ 1216 Chesnut Street

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6:30pm

The Deal: $4 Craft Beers, $5 Glasses Of Wine, $7 Cocktails

At night, Porta is more of a party than a restaurant. But the best time to come to this two-level pizza place is during Happy Hour, when the drinks are cheap and the individual pies are only $7.

Max Grudzinski

Continental Restaurant & Martini Bar

Fusion  in  Old City
$$$$ 138 Market St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Beers, $5 House Wine, $6 Cocktails

Both locations of The Continental are perfect for meeting up with coworkers, but the one in Old City has better deals, with things like $5 fried-chicken dumplings and an $8 mezze plate that you can split between at least two or three people.

Giuseppe & Sons

$$$$ 1523 Sansom St

When: Daily, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Beers, $5 Glasses Of Wine, $5 Cocktails

The basement of Giuseppe & Sons has a bar that wraps around the entire, enormous room so there are almost always seats available. You can stick to the (super cheap) $5 cocktails during Happy Hour, or add an entire margherita pizza to your order for only $6.

Neal Santos

Double Knot

$$$$ 120 S 13th St

When: Daily, 4-7pm

The Deal: $5 House Wine, $5 Featured Beer, $5 Cocktails, $5 Sake

You want to get to Double Knot early if you plan on getting a table or a seat at the bar during Happy Hour, because as soon as 5pm hits, it feels like everybody in the city who works in an office descends upon the bar. That’s probably because the drinks are not only cheap but also really good. And they discount a bunch of their excellent small plates to just $5 - including things like dumplings and handrolls.

Rachel Lerro

Abe Fisher

$$$$ 1623 Sansom St

When: Daily, 5-7pm

The Deal: $7 Glasses Of Wine, $7 Cocktails

When you have an awkward amount of time between the end of work and the beginning of your Hamilton show, head to Abe Fisher for a few Happy Hour drinks. And, while you’re there, you might as well order a few of their $7 small plates that are all inspired by Jewish deli food.

$$$$ 1137 Spruce St

When: Monday-Thursday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $5 Daily Beer And Wine

Every day, wine bar Tria does a Happy Hour deal they call “5 for 5” where they discount five things on the menu to $5 from 5-7pm. The selections change daily, but it always includes three wines, a beer, and a charcuterie board featuring a combination of meats and cheeses, plus some jam, mustard, or pickled things.

Mission Taqueria

$$$$ 1516 Sansom St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $3 Beers, $6 Margaritas

If Happy Hour was a verb, like “summer” is for the cast of Real Housewives, then Mission Taqueria would be the biggest place to “Happy Hour” in Philly. The colorful, second-floor space is full of long, cafeteria-style tables that can fit up to 12 of your closest friends. And on top of drink specials, they do $2 tacos filled with things like lamb and carne asada.

Nomad Pizza

$$$$ 1305 Locust St

When: Monday-Friday, 4:30-6:30pm, Weekends, 10-11pm

The Deal: $4 Beers, $5 Glasses Of Wine

The best time to go to Nomad Roman is during their late-night Happy Hour on weekends when you can get dinner before heading to the bars. After a few $5 glasses of wine and a $6 personal pizza, you’ll either be ready for a long night or want to climb directly into bed.

Kerry McIntyre

McGillin's Olde Ale House

$$$$ 1310 Drury St

When: All Day, Every Day

The Deal: Too Many Specials To Count

Even though McGillin’s doesn’t have a dedicated Happy Hour, there are so many specials on a daily basis here that we had to include it on this guide. They differ every day, but the best ones are $1 mugs of beer on Mondays, $4 margaritas on Thursdays, and $4 Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and Bellinis until 3pm on weekends.

Neal Santos

El Rey

$$$$ 2013 Chestnut St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-6:30pm

The Deal: $2 Tecates, $3 Drafts, $4 Margaritas, $5 Flavored Margarita Of The Day

El Rey is like a festive, retro diner full of booths, long tables, and vintage movie posters plastering the walls - all of which make it a good spot for an after-work team outing. During Happy Hour, they’ve got dollar tacos (go for the steak and fish options) in addition to $2 beers, and $4 margaritas. It gets pretty crowded, so get there early if you want a seat.

Rachel Lerro

$$$$ 1221 Locust St

When: Sunday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Draft Beers, $7 Cocktails, $7 Glasses Of Wine

Vedge isn’t the type of place you’d normally just go to for dinner on a random weeknight. But you can just walk into Happy Hour at the bar six days a week without thinking twice about the cost. That’s because this high-end vegan spot has all of their cocktails for half off, and a bunch of their small plates are cheaper than usual too - like the tofu banh mi tacos ($6) and curry fries ($5).

Leah Sprague

The Dandelion

$$$$ 124 S 18th St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $5 Drafts, $5 House Wines, $6 Gin And Tonics

There’s a wallpapered dining room in The Dandelion that looks like a place you might have tea with Kate Middleton, but there’s also a pub room where, on top of drink deals, you’ll get $3 snacks like deviled eggs, and an excellent burger for only $12 (it’s usually $18).

North philly

Max Grudzinski

$$$$ 1414 Frankford Ave

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Weekends, 3-5pm

The Deal: $1 Off Draft Highballs And Beer

Nunu’s a very red bar in Fishtown that’s great for a post-work first date or drinks with a few friends. In addition to their drink specials, they also do $3 skewers, $6 handrolls, and $5 on all their small plates during Happy Hour.

Cheu Fishtown

JapaneseRamen  in  Fishtown
$$$$ 1416 Frankford Ave

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Weekends, 3-5pm

The Deal: $1 Off Draft Beers, $7 House Wines, $7 Daily Cocktail, $12 Sapporo Pitchers

Cheu Fishtown is from the same people behind Nunu (and it’s right next door), so it makes sense that they have a similar Happy Hour situation. Except here, the $5 snacks are things like butternut squash rangoons, pastrami bing buns, and black garlic wings.

Lloyd Whiskey Bar

$$$$ 529 E Girard Ave

When: Daily, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Drafts, $4 Citywides, $6 Old Fashioneds, $6 Moscow Mules, $6 Cocktail Of The Day

Lloyd’s, a neighborhood bar in Fishtown, has some of the best bar food in the city. And all of the small plates, from crispy chicken nuggets to mac and cheese, are just $5 during Happy Hour.

Emily Schindler

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Weekends, 12-2pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Drafts, $5 Manhattans, $5 Old Fashioneds

For some solid BBQ and cheap drinks in Fishtown, check out Fette Sau. During Happy Hour, take advantage of their $5 burnt end sandwich - and make sure to load it up with one of their six types of BBQ sauce.

The Deal: $4 Draft Beers, $2 PBR Cans

It doesn’t matter whether or not you actually like PBR. During Happy Hour, it’s only $2 at this neighborhood Fishtown bar. Order one along with a strong Interstate Arnold Palmer depending on how your night goes.

When: Monday-Saturday, 5-7pm, Sunday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $4 Peronis, $5 Daily Cocktail, $6 Glasses Of Wine

If you just get out of a show at The Met or Union Transfer, come by this spacious Italian spot a little early for Happy Hour at the bar. The cocktails are great, and the $6 pizza and $7 pasta specials are even better.

$$$$ 600 N Broad St

When: Tuesday-Friday, 4-7pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Specialty Cocktails, Half-Priced House Wine, Half-Priced Domestic Beers

The live jazz that happens every night at South Restaurant might not start until halfway through their Happy Hour. But you should come early and stick around - order some Southern-inspired appetizers like duck fat-tossed tots and, of course, some half-priced drinks.

Sancho Pistola's

$$$$ 19 W Girard Ave

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Drafts, $2 Tecate Cans, $17 Pitchers Of Margaritas And Sangria

The International

AmericanBar FoodBar  in  Kensington
$$$$ 1624 N Front St

The Deal: $4 Beers, $5 Cocktails, $6 Glasses Of Wine

If you’re into beer, you’ll want to hang out downstairs at The International where they have craft bottles, cans, and drafts from all over the world. Upstairs, on the other hand, you’ll find a bar made out of an old airplane wing, and a menu of cocktails. Wherever you decide to spend your Happy Hour, though, you’ll be able to get their skewers for just $1.

Jerry's Bar

$$$$ 129 W Laurel St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Sunday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $2 Off Drafts, $5 House Wines, $5 Old Fashioneds, $6 Daily Cocktail

Like every other place on this list, Jerry’s Bar has some great Happy Hour deals. But they don’t just stop with normal discounts. This neighborhood bar in Northern Liberties has daily deals on top of the normal drink discounts, plus extra specials on Eagles’ gamedays.

Prohibition Tap Room

$$$$ 501 N 13th St

When: Every day from 5-7pm

Kerry McIntyre

Tattooed Mom, a cool bar with graffiti-covered walls on South Street, does both a regular Happy Hour and a late-night Happy Hour. When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, Weekends, 3-5pm

The Deal: $1 Off Drafts, $2.50 High Life, $7 House Wine, $8 Daily Cocktail, $8 Off Pitchers

Even if Bing Bing Dim Sum didn’t have Happy Hour every day, we’d still want to spend our nights here, splitting pitchers and multiple orders of dumplings with friends. But the specials just mean we come here earlier on weeknights, and day drink here on weekends - and we only spend $15 on our three orders of dumplings instead of the normal $21.

$$$$ 1700 E Passyunk Ave

When: Monday-Friday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $6 House Wine, $5 Blood Orange Margaritas, $5 Sangria

We’re pretty sure Birra, a small pizza place on East Passyunk, has the cheapest Happy Hour pizza you’ll find in the city. On weekdays before 7pm, a medium pie here only costs $5. Pair that with a few margaritas and dinner will only cost you around $15.

And if you’re still hungry after throwing back a few $1.50 oysters, you might just end up staying for a full meal.

Devil's Den

$$$$ 1148 S 11th St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Drafts, $5 House Wine

The best part about Devil’s Den - besides the Happy Hour deals - is their fireplace, which makes this a go-to for after-work drinks in the winter.

South Philadelphia Tap Room

$$$$ 1509 Mifflin St

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Drafts

If you live around East Passyunk, you’ve probably been here for a beer or five with your friends to end a night of bar hopping. But if you come here earlier in the night, you can try some of their decent bar food. Plus, all of their appetizers during Happy Hour, like mac and cheese and wild boar tacos, are discounted.

Second District Brewing

$$$$ 1939 S Bancroft St

When: Monday-Friday from 5-7pm

Cantina Los Caballitos has one of the best Happy Hours in the city, and it’s even better when it’s warm enough to sit outside on their patio. The large, outdoor space with umbrella-covered tables is right off East Passyunk, and from 4-6pm on weeknights you can get a $15 frozen margarita pitcher to split between you and a few coworkers.

The Sidecar Bar & Grille

$$$$ 2201 Christian St

When: Monday-Friday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $1 Off Drafts

The Sidecar used to be a pretty average dive bar in Graduate Hospital. Then it was taken over by the people behind Mike’s BBQ and Stockyard Sandwich Co. and now the food is great. There are things like Detroit-style pizza, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a burger that’s only $5 during Happy Hour.

Max Grudzinski

American Sardine Bar

$$$$ 1551 W Passyunk Ave

When: Daily, 4-7pm

The Deal: Half-Priced Punch Bowls, $1 Off Drafts

The Thirsty Soul, a church-themed bar in Newbold, has a somewhat aggressive happy hour - ordering a 55-ounce punch bowl at 4pm is a bold choice. But as long as you split it among a few friends and add a $5 burger or two, you should be good to go.

Bistrot la Minette

The Deal: $2 Beers, $3 Wines, $4 Kirs

$$$$ 4301 Baltimore Ave

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $4 Beers, $5 Glasses Of Wine

For a Happy Hour that’s family-friendly, take your kids to Clarkville in West Philly where they can enjoy $6 pizza and a milk carton while you get your own $7 personal pizza and $5 glass of wine.

White Dog Cafe

$$$$ 3420 Sansom St

When: Monday-Friday, 4-7pm

The Deal: $4 Drafts, $5 Glasses Of Wine, $5 Cocktails

White Dog is a West Philly staple and while it’s not our favorite place for a full dinner, it’s perfectly good for a drink and some appetizers during Happy Hour. They have $10 sandwiches and shared plates, and their portobello mushroom banh mi is probably the best thing there. Plus, they do $5 cocktails.
