Smile To Go has a few locations around the city, and they’re all perfect for when you want to pick up a small sandwich or a cookie with exactly four large chocolate chips on top. They also serve rotisserie chicken and vegetable sides like kale salad and roasted carrots, and this location at the Freehand Hotel has a couple of big tables where you can sit while you eat. So if you live or work in the area, this is a very easy kind-of-healthy option. It can get pricey, but the food is better than the majority of things you buy over a counter.

2nd Ave Deli
When the original 2nd Ave Deli closed, lots of New Yorkers channeled some nostalgic rage. At the new Murray Hill location, the old school charm may be gone, but the matzoh ball soup and pastrami sandwich have remained pretty much untouched.

Faicco’s Italian Specialities
Faicco’s is an incredible Italian deli that’s been open since 1900, and their chicken cutlet sandwich is unbeatable.
Jeffrey’s Grocery in the West Village is one of the few restaurants in town we return to regularly. It is Perfect For pretty much everything.
Court Street Grocers
Some of the best sandwiches in Brooklyn. Court Street Grocers is a Carroll Gardens favorite, but it's good enough to travel for, too.

Smile To Go
The crowd at Smile To Go is trendy, but the food isn't. The salads, soups, and sandwiches are simple, fresh, and some of our favorite in Soho.
