Peng’s is a Chinese-slash-ramen spot that’s one of the Upper East Side’s more underrated restaurants. We like the ramen here best (particularly the minced pork one), but their dumplings are also solid, as are the broth-less banmen dishes, and the rice donburis. Nothing on the menu is over $15, and there are also plenty of sakes, making this an ideal low-key weeknight meal.

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill
Somehow, the Blue Ribbon brand’s new spot is just as excellent as its other outposts, despite being in a Midtown hotel. This place is, however, insanely expensive.
If you want to get a quick sit-down meal near Grand Central, go eat some pork katsu at Katsu-Hama.
Waiting in a line outside of any restaurant seems a bit silly to us, but Tomoe is arguably one of the best sushi restaurants in the city, as you will see by those patiently standing single file out front on most nights. And it certainly isn't the atmosphere that's got people queued up on Thompson Street. The place is a dump.
