This place should really be called Mike’s Diner, but that name doesn’t sound as good, and this “coffee shop” is from a pre-Starbucks time when coffee shops also served things like grits and hamburgers. Step into Mike’s, and it feels like traveling back a half century. It’s a tiny diner on quiet corner in Clinton Hill, and it’s where you should be eating pancakes and bacon on a Sunday morning when you want to reassure yourself that New York is not getting worse every year.

Locanda Vini e Olii
We’d love Locanda Vini e Olii if we lived down the street. But when it comes to traveling this far for dinner, there are probably other restaurants in the area that we’d rather be.
Bar Bolinas is a Clinton Hill restaurant that is very good for one thing: eating a burger outside.

Even though it's in Midtown, this multi-level meat market serves up one of our favorite steaks in town, and it's not what you might expect from a steakhouse in the area.
Bar Bruno is a Mexican-American cafe in Carroll Gardens where you can drink three frozen margaritas at brunch.
Mulberry & Vine
Mulberry & Vine's cheap-ish and healthy platters make it one of our favorite lunch spots in Tribeca. The big and bright space doesn't hurt either.
