Maharlika is from the same people behind Jeepney, and it’s only about five blocks away. The food here is also Filipino, and it’s a little more upscale - but this place is still very casual, with some tropical decor, a bunch of small tables, and a big chalkboard in the back with a Tagalog word of the day. It’s perfect for a last-minute date night or an exceptional weeknight meal, and there’s a good weekday Happy Hour that goes from 5-7pm. Start with a plate of sisig with some vinegar on the side, and if you want something heavier, try the kare-kare that comes with a few big chunks of oxtail in a thick peanut sauce.
