Le Jardinier is on the ground floor of a luxury apartment building in Midtown East, and if you live upstairs, then you might find it to be a useful place. Otherwise, the sterile space feels like a pop-up in a hotel lobby. The seasonal, vegetable-focused menu is generally light and enjoyable, and if you do live in this very nice building, you might not mind paying $19 for a slice of zucchini topped with a couple mushrooms, or $23 for two attractively plated, very normal scallops. For the rest of us, there are better places to spend this kind of money in Midtown East, including The Grill across the street, or Agern for similarly light, but more interesting seasonal dishes.

Xi’an Famous Foods
On one hand, Xi’an’s presence in Midtown is great because this area desperately needs more cheap and delicious things to eat for lunch. On the other hand, no one at your office wants to be around for the aftermath of those spicy cumin lamb noodles you ordered.
Haswell Greens is a huge live music bar in the Theater District that’s a good spot to get a cocktail if you still have energy after seeing a show.

Frenchette is an upscale French bistro in Tribeca. Think of it as an updated version of The Odeon or Balthazar.
Windmill is a tiny, casual bar on the Lower East Side with some very good French small plates.
