This MacDougal Street spot serves a menu exclusively dominated by seafood - sometimes with inspiration from English food, like in the case of a luxurious Eton mess with macerated strawberries, and fish and chips beer-battered and fried so that the flaky white fish basically disintegrates in your mouth. But you’d be missing the real magic at Dame if you skipped their less-flashy sounding items, like a skewer with squid and shishitos, or a dill-and-roasted-garlic mussels dish served with cold cucumbers. Despite only opening in the summer of 2021, Dame runs like a restaurant that’s been busy for years (complete with outdoor speakers blasting “Come On Eileen,” warm service, and a long wine menu with categories based on what James Bond and Austin Powers would drink). It’s undeniably hard to get a reservation - in part because of the community they’ve already built from a successful pop-up - but if you like inventive seafood that’s perfect for summer, eating here is worth switching on a couple Resy notifies.
