If you want to drink wine in a cabin on a mountaintop, this is the closest you’re going to get in NYC. There’s even a fireplace. They also have a lot of different wines by the glass, which is perfect if you’re with someone who doesn’t know what they like. For food, there’s your standard cheese selection, and some satisfying small plates. Overall, this place is perfect for a cozy, casual glass of wine, and it will feel like a nice escape. Unless you live in a cabin.

Runner & Stone
Don't make the trek down to Gowanus just for Runner & Stone, but if you want a reliable meal in the neighborhood, go for it.

My Cuban Spot
My Cuban Spot is a takeout window in Gowanus that serves really good rice bowls and some of the best sandwiches in Brooklyn.

Ruffian is a tiny East Village bar with a huge natural wine list and a short menu of really good Mediterranean food.
Casellula is a nice little wine and cheese bar in Midtown West, perfect for a pre-theater meal.
