There are about 40 reasons why you may be interested in ordering a pie this Thanksgiving. Chatman J Cakes, a Black-owned bakery in the Bronx, is shipping seasonal pies and cakes all over the city and country, so your mom in Ohio can enjoy them, too. Each order takes around a week to process and ship, and you can schedule your sweet potato, pecan, apple, or blueberry pie on their website here.
You can order one of Bien Cuit’s pies for Thanksgiving delivery no matter where you are in the country, as long as you account for seven shipping days. Otherwise, plan on picking up a maple bourbon pecan pie or garam masala pumpkin pie at either the Smith Street or Franklin Street locations in Brooklyn. One of our favorite restaurants in Williamsburg is offering $40 pa pies as well as individual slices. For those not yet familiar with Lighthouse’s pa pie, it’s essentially a pecan pie without any pecans. You won’t miss the nuts - what’s left is a super rich, sweet filling, and a dollop of vanilla labne on top. Preorder this graham cracker-crusted pie for pickup or delivery through their website.
Martha's Country Bakery
If you’re in Forest Hills, Astoria, Williamsburg, or Bayside, you probably already rely on Martha’s Country Bakery for cheesecake and gelato. You can also rely on them to make a cranberry walnut pie so that your oven doesn’t have to work so hard.
Abu’s Homestyle Bakery in Bed-Stuy is famous for their navy bean pie. If you’re new to navy bean pie world, the bean pie is considered the only Black-American Muslim food in existence, and Abu’s Homestyle Bakery is one of the few places in the city that sells them (also, apparently Muhammad Ali was a big fan). For Thanksgiving this year, support this Black-owned bakery and try a bean pie for yourself. They also sell sweet potato pie, pecan pie, or a coconut custard pie, as well as a ton of sweet merch to buy, in case you’re looking for holiday gifts. Place your order here.
Lafayette bakery is selling maple-pumpkin and apple cider crumb pie with pâte brisée crusts, which will get you one step closer to entering the world of The Great British Bake Off. OK, that’s not necessarily true, but it’ll probably taste delicious. They also have cocoa nib pecan pie and cranberry glazed cheesecake. You can pick them up on Wednesday and Thursday of Thanksgiving week. Preorder yours here.
You could conceivably pick up all of your Thanksgiving dishes from this bakery and all-day cafe in Park Slope (including a stuffing made from their very good sourdough and turkey with gravy). Winner also has maple pecan pie and pumpkin pie available in half sizes or full ten-inch sizes. You may as well get a pint of bourbon vanilla bean ice cream while you’re at it. A good rule of thumb: if it’s a holiday, assume that Breads Bakery has something you want to order. This Thanksgiving, you can preorder a babka pie. We’ll say it again. A babka pie. If you’re looking for some Texas-style sides and pies for Thanksgiving, Yellow Rose is selling pecan cider pies made with Texas pecans and New York apples through their site. They also have a chess pie made with buttermilk and white sweet potato, and a coconut creme pie with frito crust, as well as brioche dinner rolls. All orders have to be made before the 21st and picked up at their East Village location on Wednesday, November 24th between 11am and 6pm.
This South Slope bakery sees your boring pumpkin pie and raises it. They’re making caramel apple and salted honey pumpkin pies that you can choose to share or slowly chip away at during breakfast. Order yours via phone or direct message through their instagram here, and plan on picking it up the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 8-2pm. Important: Southside Coffee also sells fresh whipped cream so that you can give your pie a cold dairy wig.
This Black-owned cake bakery in Harlem also has sweet potato pies, apple turnovers, blueberry cobblers, and lemon meringue pie you can preorder for pickup or delivery. Partybus Bakeshop on the LES not only has the best bakery name in all of the city, but it’s an excellent place to eat carbs in all of their many virtuous forms. To prepare for the holiday, preorder one of their chocolate chess, pumpkin, classic apple, spiced pear crumble, ginger pecan, salty honey, or black bottom pumpkin pies. They have extended hours for pickup and walk-ins on Tuesday, 11/23, and Wednesday 11/24, from 9am to 6pm.
Ciao, Gloria in Prospect Heights has pumpkin, apple cranberry, and milk chocolate pecan pie available for preorder through their website. You can also secure some pumpkin whoopie pies, a vegan pumkin bundt or pumkin nutella loaf, some harvest cookies, and carrot cake. Say whoopie out loud while you order. Whoopie.
All of Maman’s locations around the city are offering pie and cookie pickup and delivery. They’re only available from November 20th-24th in a limited supply at all locations. Brooklyn Sweet Spot
Brooklyn Sweet Spot is selling seasonal pies that you can finish baking at home. We assume the hot smell of cinnamon and butter will trick everyone within a quarter-mile into thinking you were the one who actually made the pie. They don’t need to know the truth. You can order an apple crumb pie, roasted maple pumpkin pie, bourbon pecan pie or a sweet potato pie made with Southern garnet jewel yams from this Black-owned bakery in Fort Greene here.
Four & Twenty Blackbirds
This Gowanus bakery has pies available for preordering that you can pick up during Thanksgiving week. Get on it soon, in case they sell out. Four & Twenty Blackbirds is known for their brown butter pumpkin pie, which is made with brown butterscotch, and their salty honey pies with honey custard and sea salt. They’re also selling pies for pickup at their location in Prospect Heights, and shipping nationwide here.
Both the UES and UWS locations of Orwasher’s Bakery are offering Thanksgiving pie pickup between November 18th and November 25th. They make their pecan pie with maple syrup and a touch of orange zest, which sounds like an ideal breakfast slice to us.
In addition to a four-person Thanksgiving meal-kit, Charlie Bird also has pecan, apple, and pumpkin pies available for pickup at Legacy Records in Midtown (another restaurant from the same restaurant group) The pies are usually ready within five days, so place your order accordingly, and check out their other Thanksgiving options here.
This excellent French restaurant in Tribeca has homemade pecan, apple, and pumpkin pies available for preorder through their website. They’ve had some practice with pastries, considering they also run their very own bakery in the neighborhood (which happens to make some good kouign-amann).
