The best restaurants in Times Square, and yes, there is such a thing. You just need to know where to look.

We know what you’re thinking. The best restaurants in Times Square? No such thing. And we’re not inclined to disagree with you. Times Square might as well have an invisible electric fence around it, considering the way we shy away from its borders. That said, there are inevitably times when dinner in Times Square is unavoidable, whether you’re in town visiting, going to see a show, or forced by some evil person to eat in this area for other reasons. And truth be told, there is some excellent food to be had in the area. You just need to know where to look.

Ippudo Westside

$$$$ 321 W. 51st St.

Whatever you think you’re going to eat in this area that will be better than a bowl of the famous Akamaru Modern ramen at Ippudo, it won’t.

$$$$ 346 W. 52nd St.

This small restaurant on 52nd Street is our lunchtime go-to in the area, serving modern Korean food. Eat some bibimbap and some spicy octopus, or just eat a whole bunch of the bulgogi (beef) sliders.

The Lambs Club

$$$$ 130 W. 44th St.

The Lamb’s Club is a spot for both drinks and a bite and a full sit down dinner, both of which are going to be upscale and expensive. But the food here never fails.

$$$$ 251 W. 50th St.

Toloache has been a Times Square staple for some time, and it’s definitely the only place in a few mile radius that serves grasshopper tacos. Not feeling that adventurous? A few margaritas and a truffle quesadilla will also do just fine.

Totto Ramen

$$$$ 366 W. 52nd St.

Totto Ramen is a pain in the ass to get into. You’ll have to put your name on a clipboard and wait for up to an hour. But it’s also incredibly good, and in our opinion, worth it. Bring cash.

Sushi of Gari 46

$$$$ 347 W. 46th St.

Gari’s signature is their omakase, and that’s the reason why you’re coming here. The chef’s selection of fresh, seasonal fish rotates everyday. So the next time you need some upscale food before a show, this place works well.

The Little Beet

$$$$ 135 W 50th St

Not too long ago, eating healthy around here meant hitting the Olive Garden for a salad full of white lettuce and canned black olives. Nowadays there’s The Little Beet, an excellent place for healthy square meals, fresh juices, and gluten free stuff. Do it for lunch so you can splurge at Bubba Gump later.

Shake Shack Times Square

$$$$ 693 8th Ave.

Already been to a Shake Shack somewhere else? Then you don’t need an explanation. But if you haven’t, allow us to be yet another voice in the room confirming the fact that these burgers are the absolute best.
