Galvin La Chapelle is an upmarket French restaurant in a part of town that’s more famous for Bengali curries and trendy comfort food. It’s true - proper tablecloths, polished service, and fancy French food do exist in Spitalfields. The food’s very good and of the photogenic, classic variety with prices to match, but you’ll be equally floored by the impressive space (the restaurant used to be a chapel). It’s a good spot for a special meal, and there’s a good-value chef’s menu in the evenings if you want to check out the ambience without splurging.
