Chances are you spent a lot of your pre-Covid time at cafés and coffee shops. Catching up with friends you didn’t want to commit to lunch or an entire evening with, working on a short-story idea that came to you at 3am, or just enjoying a cup of coffee.

Now that it is technically summer, and cafes are reopening for sit-down customers, we’ve made a list of coffee shops with outdoor seating for you to enjoy some coffee out in the open-air.

the spots

Fare Bar and Canteen

££££
££££ 11 Old Street

Wine by night, pizza by day, and coffee at all times. No, that isn’t the tagline of our memoir, it’s what you can expect at Fare. This Old Street spot has some of the best coffee in the neighbourhood, and they also have private patio out back where you can drink it.

Caravan King's Cross

££££
££££ Granary Building, 1 Granary Sq

Not your typical mobile home, the King’s Cross branch of Caravan is enormous. It’s part restaurant, part bar, and part roastery. And they have a load of tables outside which are even covered in case the weather decides to be British whilst you’re enjoying your coffee.

Vardo

££££
££££ 9 Duke Of York Square

This spacious all-day restaurant in Chelsea is serving coffee, brunch, and more from its restaurant and roof terrace. It will elevate any casual coffee catch-up. Literally.

Greenberry Cafe

££££ 101 Regents Park Rd

Sometimes we wish we lived in Primrose Hill for the pastel-coloured houses. Other times we wished we lived there so that we could be walking distance from this cute café. Their outdoor tables make it the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.

Ozone Coffee Roasters

££££
££££ Emma Street

Yes, Ozone on Emma Street is first and foremost a coffee shop. It has some of the best in London. Inside it’s a full service situation with breakfast, cocktails, pizza, and countless other menu things, but if you want coffee and pastries, you can grab it and take a seat outside. It’s the perfect spot to sit while trying to resist their all-day brunch, which you can only eat inside.

Allpress Espresso Roastery & Cafe

££££
££££ 55 Dalston Ln

The Allpress roastery on Dalston Lane has an excellent, surprisingly secluded outdoor patio. It’s just about the best spot in E8 to sit with a coffee on a sunny morning.

Snackbar

££££
££££ 20 Dalston Lane

This Dalston café is home to a kimchi and stichelton toastie that keep us up at night wondering if we can ever go back to a regular toastie. It also has a new outdoor setup. And it’s the perfect place for a coffee and a snack with a friend.

Brickwood Coffee & Bread

££££
££££ 16 Clapham Common South Side

Do you like good coffee, freshly baked pastries, and outdoor seating? Of course you do, otherwise you’ve been reading the wrong guide. Now that we’ve checked that you do, this coffee shop opposite Clapham Common tube station has all three of those things. FYI, it’s only outdoor seating for now.

Brickwood Coffee & Bread

££££ 11 Hildreth St

Brickwood’s other branch in Balham is also open for business with an outdoor seating area for coffee drinkers.

The Black Cab Coffee Co

££££
££££ 1 Riverlight Quay

The Black Cab Coffee Co at Nine Elms is the kind of place that makes you feel like a student who wears Yeezys to take out the bins. It’s slick, ultra-modern and has floor to ceiling windows. It also has an all-day breakfast menu, interesting cakes, and some great coffee. And the outdoor seating is perfect for a relaxed coffee catch-up.

Flotsam & Jetsam

££££
££££ 4 Bellevue Parade

This cute neighbourhood cafe in Wandsworth has some bench seats out front which are great for drinking coffee and getting a bite to eat when the sun is out.

Antipode

££££
££££ 28 Fulham Palace Rd

You can get some excellent coffee from this little cafe in Hammersmith to enjoy from their outdoor seating setup. It’s only open on the weekends for now.

Lowry & Baker

££££
££££ 339 Portobello Rd.

This popular neighbourhood café on Portobello Road is good for cute vintage crockery, delicious cakes, and a nice coffee outside. But there are only a few tables, so you might have to settle for takeaway coffee on the weekends when it’s busy.

Hjem

££££
££££ 3 Launceston Place

If you’re after a seriously good cup of coffee in Kensington, this Danish café is open and serving it. It’s easy to mistake the bench out front as the only outdoor seating, but you should know that they also have a secret patio/courtyard garden at the back.
