The Darling is a kind-of-quirky bar in the West Loop. The entrance to the restaurant is behind a flower shop (and it's reservation only), and the space is designed to feel like an old mansion. You can hang out on big leather chairs, drink cocktails, and order small and large format dishes (like sweetbreads or a seafood platter). They have a variety of live performances, too.

Gilt Bar is the rare River North spot that’s easy to get into, and also has great food. Prepare for a lot of meat, butter, and salt.
The Kennison, in the Hotel Lincoln near Lincoln Park, is pretty disappointing, with food that’s bland and overpriced.
We wanted to hate it, but we can’t. RPM Steak can hang with the Chicago steakhouse classics any day.
