Lamberts Downtown BBQ

Written by

All of a sudden, what was once known as “the warehouse district” filled with charming brick buildings has mostly vanished and been replaced by newer, sexier development. Personally, I’m a brick building guy. And Lamberts operates out of an exceptionally good-looking brick building holdout at a prime location down the road from Willie Nelson’s statue and the ACL Theater. Lamberts serves what is generally considered to be fancy barbecue. While barbecue snobs might scoff at their menu, we personally believe that this kind of creativity and execution is worth commending.

One of Lamberts biggest strengths is their music booking in the upstairs lounge. On any given night, there’s bound to be somebody talented playing in an intimate whiskey bar environment that feels more at home in Memphis or Brooklyn than in Austin in 2016. Even hometown hero Gary Clark Jr. used to cut his teeth playing weekday residencies. You can order food there, too, which makes for a great place to seal the deal with that special someone or impress a business client.

Food Rundown

Natural Black Angus Brisket

It comes with a brown sugar and coffee rub with spicy escabeche. This ain’t your backyard barbecue.

Cold Smoked Lockhart Quail

Little quail bites that are stuffed with Mexican rice and laid atop cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce. There are quail eggs on top of it all to remind you who the real boss of nature is.

Crispy Wild Boar Ribs

Similar in presentation to a buffalo chicken wing, these honey colored beauties come with buttermilk blue cheese for dipping.
